How does slag pot handle high temperature

How does slag pot handle high temperature?

The slag pot is primarily used for carrying steel slag from the converter, refining furnace, and the overflow from the tundish of continuous casting. Under the conditions of the converter steelmaking process, the temperature of the steel slag is higher than that of the molten steel (since the steel slag is located in the high-temperature zone of the oxygen blowing reaction). After the smelting process, whether it's the converter's slag splashing furnace protection technique, tilting the furnace to pour out slag, or other operations involving composition, the temperature of the liquid steel slag covering the surface of the molten steel will drop. Theoretically, such high temperatures pose a risk of melting through the slag pot. However, once a slag film forms, combined with the advantages of the cast steel material's rapid heat absorption and quick thermal conductivity, the surface of the slag pot continuously disperses heat through convection to its surroundings. Therefore, the pot does not become excessively hot or deform due to rapid temperature increases. Furthermore, the temperature of the liquid steel slag inside the pot gradually decreases, making it difficult for the slag film to remelt, which ensures the slag pot's sufficient safety.

Of course, if the high-temperature molten steel enters the slag tank before the steel slag, the impact energy and high temperature could likely cause a puncturing accident in the pot; conversely, if the steel slag enters the pot first, the risk of puncturing is much reduced. This is also the technical principle behind why cast steel slag pots can safely contain high-temperature steel slag.
